TL;DR: Development paused, smaller scale demo version of the game with full features (co-op multiplayer etc) but on a small scale (one or two levels) will be released for free in the future.
We’re really happy that there was some interest surrounding the game and its development. In early 2024 we reached a critical stage of development where a significant amount of the games code features had been completed, but we didn’t have sufficient resources to be able to complete the game to a high standard with features such as extensive destructible 3D models, realistic sounds, voice acting, and mission/level design. We looked at the list of work that had to be completed to offer the full experience and we determined that it was financially too risky to invest more into the project at that time.
As a result we have stopped development on Armoured VR to focus on a more sustainable project where we could get some external funding rather than trying to be fully self funded. However, to prevent the work that many have put into the game over the years going to waste we are hoping to release a much smaller, free version of the game with a limited amount of content that acts more as a VR experience. It will still have most of the promised features (multiplayer, co-op, command AI infantry etc.) as they were largely complete before development stopped, but it will have only one or two missions that can be played, on a much smaller map with lower quality assets (The current screenshots/video on the Steam page are reflective of the current quality). It will be completely free to play on Steam or for download directly from this website.
We cannot give a timeline for this yet as the main project has the current priority, but we will provide an update on Steam when we have more to share. We know this isn’t the news that some of you would have liked but we hope you understand our decision and we look forward to showing you the game in the future, even if its in a much more reduced state than we would have liked.
